Cake Mix Waffles

Cake Mix Waffles

Last week Cuisinart sent me their Breakfast Central. It is a waffle/omelette maker. I am in the process of preparing a review of the product and in doing so, I am trying it out making many different things. My family was excited to have waffles, as we often buy the frozen ones. These would undoubtedly be way better, but the problem was that we had no yeast and the recipes in the cookbook, called for it. Instead, I decided to try making waffles with cake mix. I always have a few boxes downstairs, so it was easy to whip these up. I was amazed at both how easy they were to make and how awesome they tasted. The kids said that they were more ‘fun’ than just cake. I liked the crispy outside. Having a scoop of ice cream on the waffle while it is still warm is an essential part of this whole experience as well!

I used a box of Duncan Hines chocolate cake mix and followed the instructions to make the cake batter. This recipe called for either water or milk and I used milk.

Follow the instructions of your waffle maker on how to make waffles. Do the very same thing. For the Cuisinart Breakfast Central, it comes with a scooper. One scoop of batter goes in the waffle maker.

Spread the batter evenly with a heat resistant spatula. Close the lid and turn it 180 degrees. Wait until the Breakfast Central beeps and then your waffle is ready.

Like I said before, make sure you put a scoop of ice cream on the waffle while warm. You will not regret it. I am sure the cake would be just as great with different flavours of cake mix. Next time I think I will try making funfetti cake waffles. Colourful and fun, it will surely be a huge hit!

  • 2021/ Made these yesterday (forgot to use milk instead of water). (Waffles were a bit soft to my liking but plan to toast the extras I placed in the freezer). Still delish with a brownie-like texture. Served with Smuckers dark chocolate topping and Smuckers caramel topping. Next time will add whipped cream and pecan pieces. Definitely a “fun” dessert!

  • It’s in fact very difficult in this full of activity life to listen news
on TV, so I simply use the web for that purpose, and take the most up-to-date information.

  • You mentioned not being able to make reg. waffles because you didn’t have any yeast. I use bisquick and add a lot of melted butter to the mixture. Makes awesome fluffy waffles.

  • I made this a few minutes ago and used a generic cake mix instead of a name brand. It came out very soft and was hard to remove from the waffle maker. I have a cheap waffle maker so I can’t adjust the temperature. Not sure how to fix it.

  • Tried this tonight after dinner…BIG HIT! I am not sure if it was my waffle maker, or what, but if I filled the waffle maker like I normally fill for a waffle, it was too much and leaked out all over. On the second attempt, I under filled just a bit, and they came out perfect! It made about 7 in all. Put the leftovers in a zip-lock and will try warming in the microwave tomorrow. Ice cream on top is a MUST! Yummy =)
