Pumpkin Pie Spice Blend

I absolutely love pumpkin pie. From September right through Christmas it is my favourite pie. I have no idea why I don’t have it much in other times of the year. It could be because I connect it so much with the holiday season that any other time it just doesn’t seem to fit. It is sorta like eggnog, I guess. Many of the pumpkin pie recipes call for pumpkin pie spice. I remember years ago buying a small container of pumpkin pie spice and I could not get over how expensive it was. I vowed to never buy it again – after all, it is just a blend of spices most people have in their kitchen. Here is a recipe that makes 2 1/2 teaspoons of the pumpkin spice. You can multiply it if you need more.

  • Funny how we buy spice blends instead of blending our own. Now the pie spice I was aware of, what I was not aware of was that garam masala was a spice blend. Live and learn-it is so much cheaper to blend your own. Informative post!

    • Oh I know Tina. I remember the time years ago when I found out curry powder was a blend. Since then I always make it myself

  • Amazing the premium they charge just to mix a few spices together. This is pretty much the same ratio I use (much to my shame I don’t measure)
