Kiwi Jalapeno Salsa
It has been kiwi week on The Black Peppercorn. That is ok though because kiwifruit is awesome. Earlier this week, I compared green kiwi with the sweeter, less tart, golden kiwi. That comparison can be found here.
There is also an amazing bruschetta bread recipe that uses these yellow tinted kiwifruit. You can find that recipe here: Golden Kiwi and Blueberry Bruschetta.
The recipe I get to share with you today is really exciting and it uses the classic green kiwifruit. Having kiwi in a salsa may seem odd for people used to the classic tomato based salsas.
Fruity salsa is probably as popular as it has ever been and it is truly a wonderful snack. I have made salsa with mango, pineapple and peaches before. This was the first time I used kiwifruit. Wow – it was incredible and everyone at dinner loved it. The sweetness from the fruit is balanced so well with the heat of the jalapeno.
If you are not a fan of hot food, you could scale back on the amount of jalapeno, but I encourage you not to omit it – it is an essential part of this salsa.
This kiwi jalapeno salsa is perfect scooped up with tortilla chips. It is also great topped on grilled chicken or fish. Be warned, this salsa will go fast…. you may need to double the batch!
