Red Cabbage and Apples – Crock Pot Recipe
Crock pot red cabbage and apples is such an easy dish to make and it is always a hit any time I make it. Using the slow cooker is an ideal way to make this dish.
This recipe is a classic German dish called Blaukraut. This is a vegetable side dish of slow braised cabbage with apples. It has a sweet tart flavour and it tastes amazing!
I remember having it as a kid but I do not know if I ever made it myself. I made this for a family Christmas meal last month and I loved it and knew I had to do it again so I could get a photo and put it on the website.
Red Cabbage and Apples - Slow Cooker Recipe - Blaukraut
Ingredients
- 8 cups red cabbage , thinly sliced
- 4 tart apples (I used granny smith), cored, peeled and chopped
- 1 onion , diced
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
- 1/2 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a large slow cooker (I use a 6qt).
- Cook on low for 8 hours.
