Red Cabbage and Apples – Crock Pot Recipe

Slow braised red cabbage and apples this German side dish is perfect for the crock pot. Red cabbage, apples, vinegar, onion, sugar. Classic slow cooker recipe.

Crock pot red cabbage and apples is such an easy dish to make and it is always a hit any time I make it. Using the slow cooker is an ideal way to make this dish.

This recipe is a classic German dish called Blaukraut. This is a vegetable side dish of slow braised cabbage with apples. It has a sweet tart flavour and it tastes amazing!

I remember having it as a kid but I do not know if I ever made it myself. I made this for a family Christmas meal last month and I loved it and knew I had to do it again so I could get a photo and put it on the website.

  • I make this often but I add a cinnamon stick, ground cloves, allspice, honey, lemon juice, nutmeg and cloves.

Dude. This is a gnarly recipe. Just eliminate the onion and add a little honey for slightly tastier waves. i would definitely recommend this totally rad recipe to anyone.

I’ve always struggled to get a good result when doing it on the stove. This recipe is gorgeous, it’s tender with just enough zing to it. I definitely would recommend, I will be making this again and again

Hello! Thank you soooo much for this recipe! I have been dating my German boyfriend for about 4 years and wanted to “wow” him with an authentic German dinner. He had always talked about Blaukraut. After Googling it, I stumbled on your page a couple years ago and have been making this recipe every since!!! It’s so fantastic! I have made little tweeks to it, but have stuck to your base. I always add cinnamon and today I’m trying it in the slow cooker. Anyhow, I just want to thank you! Because of you I will have something to pass down to my little girls 🙂
