How to Bake Meatballs in the Oven

Oven baked meatballs are by far the easiest way to cook meatballs. Not only can you cook a lot all at the same time, you can also ensure that they are all cooked evenly throughout and that all of the meatballs are cooked the same. It is also nice that you do not need to hover over the skillet, flipping the meatballs. Instead, while they are baking in the oven, you can work on other parts of the meal.

For years I used to cook them in a skillet and, while using a skillet is a perfectly fine way to cook meatballs, once I learned how to bake them in the oven, I never turned back.

Cooking meatballs has never been easier than baking them in the oven. A simple recipe for meatballs that can be used in spaghetti sauce, with honey garlic sauce, for swedish meatballs and more!

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.

Roll the meat mixture into 1 1/2 inch meatballs and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. I love parchment paper because it ensures that the meatballs do not stick to the baking sheet and it also makes clean up easier.

Bake in a 400F oven until cooked through, about 20-24 minutes. The meatballs should all be evenly cooked and nicely browned on the outside.

Once done, they can be used in spaghetti sauce and topped on noodles, tossed with honey garlic sauce and served as an appetizer. I also love these in a meatball sub with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese!

We love meatballs and use them in a lot of different recipes. Baking the meatballs in the oven works for pretty much every recipe that uses cooked meatballs. Once they are baked, they can be added to the dish.

I also love cooking meatballs in our smoker and here are a bunch of meatball recipes prepared for grilling or smoking.

  • Great way to make meatballs but here is a added suggestion save the fat from the meatballs and add it to your sauce it makes the sauce taste great AND you don’t have a problem disposing of the fat

Very good! But, I substituted the salt with sugar. I like a sweet meatball. I also changed the milk to grape jelly for a more Italian taste. (I would have used wine, but didn’t have any). We don’t like hamburger, so I used canned chicken. I pureed it in the blender to soften the texture to make it more pliable. I also added a dash of sarcasm to this review because I laugh so hard at people writing reviews of recipes like this.
I actually made it exactly as written and they were very good.

Very good. I used dry onion soup mix for flavor and crushed garlic butter croutons instead of bread crumbs. Made flavor even better

Wow 5 stars all across the board. The recipe was easy to follow, not complicated, and uses every day staples in the pantry. They came out very flavorful and tender. My husband kept “Mmm babe these are so good!” Through the whole meal. I saved half the recipe and froze them. Thanks so much for this recipe–it’s a keeper!

I have done Slovakian Meatloaf with milk before, but never meatballs. I was very happy with this recipe. Very tasty. I would gladly make these again.

  • I just finished making your/my recipe for meatballs and cooked them in the oven. Waay easier! It would have been really easy if I had put the stainless steel cooking pot inside my Instant Pot! I can tell you I will never forget that again. I used my Kitchenaid mixer and metal paddle to mix about 4 pounds of burger. That works very well too! Thanks for the oven tip!

  • Thanks for the advice on how long to cook meatballs at what temp. I’ve been experimenting with recipes and temps and time vary. This seems like a good all around technique.

  • I use less bread and milk, no cheese. Good powdered garlic is essential. I add 1/2 tsp dried oregano, a few drops Worcester sauce, salt and ground black pepper to taste, 1/3 cup chopped onion to two lbs beef. I like fresh parmesan but not always on hand. Above recipe looks good
