Mango Lassi Smoothie
This drink is fresh and creamy with the bright flavour of mango. The hint of cardamon provides a little depth of spice. This is a perfect drink to start your morning and also great after an Indian meal!
Anytime we go out to eat at an Indian restaurant, I love to order a mango lassi. This drink is essentially a smoothie made with mango and yogurt and it is fresh, creamy and so delicious. It goes so well with some of the spicy Indian dishes we order.
Making Mango Lassi At Home Is Easy!
There is no need to only have this drink when you go out to eat at a restaurant. Making this mango smoothie at home is super simple and can be made in a matter of minutes.
- Mango – try to get mango that is as ripe as possible as they will give the sweetness and best flavour.
- Yogurt – plain yogurt is best to use for this smoothie.
- Milk – the milk is the main liquid and used to thin the smoothie out, while still keeping it creamy.
- Honey – just a little bit of honey to get the mango lassi a little bit of extra sweetness.
- Ground cardamom – just a little bit of this spice to give the smoothie a bit more depth and complexity.
How To Cut A Mango
Mango may seem like a tricky fruit to peel and get all the fruit out. The best way to cut it is to place the mango on a cutting board with the narrow side of the fruit on the cutting board. Mango have big seeds/pits that are fairly flat. With a knife, cut from the top down. As you cut down, try to stay as close to the edge of the pit as possible.
It takes a bit of practise but after a while you will get to the point where you do not lose much of the fruit at all. I also like to cut cubes into the mango (see pic above) which allows the meat of the mango to be removed easily.
Frozen Mango? Yes, frozen mango does work well for this lassi smoothie. While, a fresh ripe mango will provide a better overall flavour, using frozen fruit will still taste amazing!
How To Make Mango Smoothie
This is a super simple smoothie to make. Simply add everything to the blander and turn it on low at first. Slowly increase the blender speed until it gets too high. Let the smoothie blend on high for close to 60 seconds. Then, pour the mango lassi smoothie into a glass and serve.
